Jōmon Sugi located in Yakushima island (south of Japan, near Kagoshima prefecture) has fallen down the day before yesterday. Jōmon Sugi was the oldest and largest of nearly 2,000-year-old-growth cryptomeria trees on the island, and is estimated to be between 2,170 and 7,200 years old, and it was one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Japan.

Jōmon Sugi ... before fall and afte fall.

It is shocking to me as I should go there in the near future. :(

The feeling that we've lost something that endured over 2,000 years makes me sad.... :(

Wow, that's actually very sad. Anything with that much history will be missed dearly. Sorry for your loss, nation of Japan.

Maybe possible to reproduce it with embryonic-stem-cell technology. 🙂

Sorry for the loss ! old things especially when it's very old and meaningful are very valued.
