Greetings!

During my visit in Tokyo, I plan to visit Izu Oshima.
My preliminary plan is to get a ferry (大型客船) over night (22:00-06:20) from Tokyo to the island, leave my rucksack somewhere, hike for the whole day + visit Vulcano museum, stay overnight, hike half a day and catch a jet ferry (高速ジェット船) to Atari / Tokyo.

Now for the questions:
1. How do I know where do the boats come and go from at Oshima? Motomachi or Okata?
2. Any recommendations on social and non-expensive accommodation? I would especially prefer hostels/dorms to meet new people and not a single room as I travel alone.
3. Is booking a place in a day notice might be a problem? (end of March/start of April)
4. Any one would to join :) ? The next weekend, depending on the weather.

and a general question for small towns in Japan:
5. Is it ok to leave my rucksack at a place like tourist information office (until their closing times of course)?
6. Is it ok to leave my rucksack at a place I book to stay, but before the check-in time?
in both cases, I don't need a locker, just some corner to put it...

ありがとう ございます,
Simon.

Hi Simon,

Izu-Oshima is a great place to spend a weekend. Last time, we brought our bicycles on the ferry and toured the island (quite hilly though).

1) Depends on the boat. Contact the Takeshiba Terminal to make sure

=> Boarding Terminal Guide / Tokai Kisen Co., Ltd.

3) We had no reservation and just booked at the port. There are lots of inexpensive minshuku (pensions).

5) + 6) Absolutely safe! :)

The small tourist information bureau in Motomachi closes pretty early though, if I remember correctly.
