Hi.
Please somebody tells me the English translation is correct.
Context)
The appearance of a man's face is not important.
It doesn't matter if his appearance is cool or not, if he is handsome or not.

Kindness, warmth, or thoughtfulness is more important.

Do the underlined words make sense to a native-English speaking person?

I think I would say "A person's outward appearance isn't what matters , it's what's in their heart that counts".

Same meaning , just a different way of saying it.

Especially,

are nice, natural, feeling-comfortable expressions to me.

I always find it interesting translating things to Engilsh from Japanese or vice versa. Not as easy as one might think. Something translate nicely, while other seemingly simple things can tie my mind in nots. Learning Japanese isn't so easy. is not easy either. Let's share!

Another informal way to say that is:

Looks aren't as important as what's on the inside

you hear that alot in media I think.

I think you can say "It's the heart of a person that matters, not the appearance". This is more native.

It's not direct, but...

I think the most natural way of expressing this is through a couple of idioms:

"It's what's on the inside that counts"
and
"Beauty is only skin deep."

Although they're not literal translations, but they sound more native to me. To say that "what matters is the heart," in English, sounds a bit... sappy, childish... like what you would find in a Disney movie. At least, it sounds that way to me (even though I speak like this all the time, I don't think it's how you want to sound...you want to be taken seriously). If someone disagrees, please tell me! I'm probably wrong :sorry:
