I've always liked this picture that i found in the end of an old anime. Underneath it, it says "the end" in english, but is that what this means? It's very artistic, so it's kinda hard to make sense, what kanji it is (if it is one?). i would appreciate if someone could enlighten me, what does this really mean, or is it just the end. And what does it look like in more simple font.

Yes, it means "finished", "completed", or, in the context of a movie "The End".
 
My favorite is the Critical Drinker's end to his videos:

"That's all I"ve got for today. Go away now."
