I never imagined it would be so difficult to post a job ad. I work for a Big Name Automotive Company in Japan as a Computer Software Technician. In simple english, I repair broken computer modules on high end sports cars. ( Ferrari, Lamborghini. Maserati, Porsche..... ) Anyway, my Boss asked me to look for mechanics (preferably Gaijin) that would be interested in working here. The problem is that just about everyone applying on all the "Gaijin" job sites are looking for English Jobs or some sort of engineering job. Anybody know where I could post a General Automotive Mechanic Job?
 
How about in our Classified section?
 
Try the forums over at gaijinriders.com as well. Several motorheads over there. Primarily motorcycle, but they may know some people.

The problem is getting an experienced wrench guy already in Japan who has his own visa, I would imagine. Anybody with enough experience to get a visa specifically to do the work probably already has a gig. Then you have the amateur motorheads who are here on some other kind of visa but with a pre-existing career or occupation. That leaves, I would guess, a candidate pool consisting largely of spouse visa guys who are both skilled in automotive mechanics and sick and tired of Eikaiwa. I don't know the details behind the need for a 整備士 license in order to work, but if one is required then you have also the problem of needing people whose Japanese is good enough to pass the written exam, which would whittle the pool down to practically zero. Most guys who have the education or who have independently put in the work to get their Japanese reading up to doing something like that are already employed at something else, I would guess; and the overlap with the spouse visa Eikaiwa burnouts who have auto tech skills must be tiny indeed.
 
@Glenski- Thanks, but Gaijinpot seems more like a place for English Instructors and Teachers. Would be a shame to pay the FEE for posting an automotive mechanic job in an ocean of Language teaching jobs. I felt it would dilute the posting and probably go un-noticed.

@mike- Since most of the cars we have in the shop are European and American, Japanese is not really required. (Although basic conversational Japanese is preferred) Most Shop Repair Manuals and Parts order forms are available in English as well. And a Mechanics Licence is not required for an Entry Level mechanics job here. The company will welcome any person who has a fundamental knowledge of how to do automotive maintenance. If the person can follow a step by step guide and is quick to learn how to use Diagnostic tools (via computer), they will do fine.

Definitely hit up the guys I mentioned, then. They all network around and know folks who might be interested. Try to find some VFW or American Legion post near the US bases and contact them. You might find some retired military guys who have remained in Japan with their spouses and who would like a job like that. Ditto contacting the Family Support Center on any of the bases and asking them for advice on listing an off-base employment opportunity for a military spouse. It can't hurt.
 
What is the pay and where is the job located?

I'm looking for work, on a spouse visa. I don't have trade experience in mechanics but tinkered a lot a few years back including an entire engine conversion by myself, which included a new computer, supercharger, intercooler, gearbox and bellhousing, mounts, steering rack, propshaft and brakes amongst other things. So I gave myself a well rounded education but would still need some guidance on different cars I guess.
