Yes, Japan isn't that big.
It's around 10 hours by car I think.
Google maps says it can take 6 hours but I'm not sure if it's reliable.
You could do it in a few weeks.

Mike, did you read that book written back in the late 80s or early 90s about that guy who walked the Tokaido? I keep thinking the title was "My Tokaido Journey" or something like that. It was a fascinating book, full of great encounters -- with many of them being Japanese who couldn't believe what he was doing.
