Hey There,

Quick intro, needed a hobby/distraction over covid so started looking into languages to massage the brain and thought would be nice to be able to consume media outside of Australia and get exposure to new culture. I've bounced back and forth between Chinese and Japanese, loving the hanzi/kanji but found the consumable media out of Japan much more appealing and easily accessible.

Self studied and after two years really only know the kana and a lot of vocab words and have not put the puzzle together. So rather than waste my time, have given myself goals to read more and allocate a decent amount of study time each week. Part of stepping up my game was to start to do more with emersion so when not working, being a father or studying I expose myself to all things "Japanese" and wanted somewhere to get ideas, learn from others and find interesting topics outside of mainstream Japanese entertainment. How else could I have found out about Japanese abandoned houses and start watching renovation videos and pick up the tid bits of information around Japanese taxes and land markers along the way !

So I found this forum - hope to learn a lot, absorb a lot and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for reading, (not so short intro)

Jez

Welcome. It sounds like it might be time for you to spend some time learning grammar now that you've learned a bit of the writing system and some vocabulary.

Thank you,

I actually found a copy of Genki I on the market last week and purchased. Starting that this week, and utilising Tokini Andy as a primer to get started.

Very happy you found us ! Welcome and hope you enjoy absorbing all the info here and the great helpful staff ready to answer any questions you might have.
