Very artistic. I wonder what the cash value was of the crop the artist destroyed.

Norton, however, said the farmers he's talked to don't care that
someone may have entered their fields and made curious patterns
by flattening plants.

"Wheat and barley and hay, frankly, is not a real profitable
crop," Norton said. "Even a large crop circle in the middle of a
field financially does very little damage."

Second one is similar, although the farmer was more niffed.

"I walked out and saw a big circle. I was more concerned with
the damage," Balestra said. The smashed wheat is not
harvestable, he said, because the farm equipment cannot reach
the flattened crop. He planned to harvest the field the prior
week, but the contractor was not available.

Wheat is not the most profitable crop anyway, Balestra said, at
$100 a ton.

"It's not that much, but in farming, everything counts," said
Balestra, who mainly farms vegetables.

Although if they'd had a bit of luck and played it right it could have been worth a lot more than the crop damage cost.

He'd also secured advance permission from the landowner; there was a four-strong BBC film crew to capture the work in progress; a helicopter booked so a photographer could capture the end result, and a PR. Oh yes and, this time, he and Lundberg got paid several thousand pounds for their efforts by the satellite channel UK TV Gold, who commissioned the piece to launch their new comedy season.

yeah...don't think ALIENS did it ;-) Geometry and a few devices can achieve this...Alien believers would attack you with answers like :"yeah but noone can make those figures in the dark in a little time, it's too perfect to be manmade!" but when you think of it...why the hell would "ALIENS" bother to make signs that have no value and how the hell would they do it with their "spaceship" hehe...cracks me up :p

you can do it with a piece of wood and a piece of string..

but when the craze STARTED they thought it was the force of the engines when lifting from the ground or descending onto it that made the patterns.. but yeah.
