I want to turn my coins to cash

I've noticed currency exchanges do not accept coins and I have a ton of them.
I'm guessing the bank would be the best place to do this. Do I need to have an account there?
Do they not have machines like Coinstar in Japan?

Are you in Japan? Just take the coins to your bank and ask them to deposit them.

As far as I know, there are no machines like Coinstar. Why would anyone pay a percentage to have a machine do it when their banks will do it for free?

Some coinstars are free if you have an account with the bank near them. There is one at the grocery store by my house that is free, if you have a TCF account (there is a TCF in the grocery store)

You can convert coins into bills at any post office in Japan as well free of charge.

The 10 yen coins contain much copper, so it is good to place them in the drain of a sink or men's shoes.

When you buy something that costs 313 yen, and only have a 500 yen coin and some change, give the clerk 513 yen. Or even 503 yen.

In this way you can control your 1 yen coin build up.
