I didn't know they had 'cups of coffee' (nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more) in Japan.

Well if you're talking about "konna yarou" for example then the "konna" is pretty much the 'that' bit of 'that barstard'.

Doesn't make 'that' a bad word.

[EDIT] Actually that should be kono yarou. Now I'm at a loss as to when konna actually gets used in 'bad' sentences.

I just asked my host mother what (konna otoko) meant and she said (that f*cking man) she told me it`s Osaka-ben, she even looked it up in her little hand held dictionary.

But it all depends on how you say it and context. She said (konna oishii) isn`t the same.

This means:

"I don't often do this sort of thing, but would you like to have a cup of coffee with me?"

The context is obviously trying to pick up a girl that you don't know, in a public situation like outside a train station, or something like that.

The level of politeness is low, indicated by "ikan", meaning "won't you go (have a cup of coffee with me)". It's eastern (Tokyo) style.

"konna" can have a negative feeling depending on context. Here it is not particulary negative. Literally it means "this kind of thing".
