How do you say "I don't want to buy..."?

I know that "I want to buy..." in Japanese is "...を買いたい。 ", but how do you say you don't want to buy something? I'm confused on making the verb negative here. Arigatou.

Like you said, "want to~" = ~したい
When you make it negative, it would be ~たくない

For example: I don't want to buy anything. = 買いたくない
eat = 食べたくない

Just erase ます from the verb (マスform) and add たくない.

買います--->買いたくない
食べます--->食べたくない

The ～たい form conjugates as an i-adjective.

買いたい
買いたくない(negative)
買いたかった(past)

買いたくないです。It's just like adjectives. To make it polite stick です at the end.

[Edit] Ha, I just realized you can also say 買いたくありません, which is slightly more polite.

Would I also add です to the positive "kaitai" to make it polite? Sorry, I get so confused with verbs...

Yes. Like Toritoribe said, the 〜たい form of verbs acts exactly like adjectives.

Although out of politeness I don't recommend using "kaitakunaidesu/kaitakuarimasen" or "kaitai" at a real store.

What you should say to the salespeople if asked is : 買います (I will buy) or すみません、これはいりません。 / いいえ、けっこです。etc (I don't need it.)

Of course there is always the "I will think about it" routine : 考えておきます。ありがとう。 And then you walk away.

Sumimasen, kore ha irimasen.

But then you say,

Iie, Kekko desu.

What does Kekko mean? You already said you don't need it with これはいりません. I am confused. Sorry. I am still learning.

It should be "kekkou." いいえ、結構です = No, thank you. That was a bad copy and paste.

I showed it as an example because I thought it was easy for beginners. Personally I would use something with "iie" only on a person that was extremely pushy.

(Sore wa) Kekkou desu. Oh, that's OK....is better for refusing in a store.

I think it makes sense. Sometimes I dream of saying things in japanese. But I use real japanese. only very simple sentences. The reason why I say I think it makes sense, is because it still feels like a foreign language to me. Being a native english speaker, I know in english what makes sense. It feels natural. Japanese I know how to speak/read but it doesn't "make sense.". For example I can't tell you the most natural way of saying something. Do you think in japanese now Elizabeth? Does it feel like your native language now?

PS: Recently I've been talking to another magician of japan, who is very famous among other magicians. His name is Ponta the Smith. He is japanese. I am helping his english and he is helping my japanese. We speak often. It is wonderful. He is incredibly skilled at magic. So much so, that instead of saying "it was good" I want to say "It was very good." or, "It was very skilled."

それはよかったです
That was good.

それは上手でした
That was skilled.

How do I say "very" or "extremely"?
Do I use とても?

How do you say "I don't want to buy..."?
