Watched the first 40 minutes or so, pretty good so far, but extremely long movie...Over 2 hours :S

The cast is pretty good as well, Seita has quite a similar voice to the voice in the animation, although i dunno about the little girl she doesnt seem so cute like the anime.

Plus anything with Inoue Mao and Nanako Matsushima is

I finished watching it last night, it is 2hr 28 minutes long. Not my usual genre of film, but I have to say it was very good and also very sad, especially the last 30 minutes or so. I would definately recommend it.

Is this a live action film of Grave of the fireflies or a tv series?

and if its a film, has it been released yet?

Thanks in advance

It's a tv special to celebrate(?) 60 years after the war ended, it's slightly different to the animated version, and yup live action.

Thanks Gaki for the response

I'll try and keep a look out for it as I really loved Grave of the Fireflies anime and consider it an all time classic (and moving) ;-)

great movie.. if it doesnt bring atleast 1 tear to your eye.. something is wrong with you...

Does anyone know where I can get English subtitles for this (the live action one)?

I've been looking around and have the raw episode, but no luck with subs

I was really looking forward to seeing this as well.

Also, I'm not sure if requesting this is against the rules, but if it is, please accept my apologies

This sure sounds very interesting...I didn't know it was released yet.....Where can it be purchased?

I don't thinks it's being released on DVD yet...I'll look into it ;-)

I watched the animated version a while back and I refuse to watch it again. It left me in a ball of sadness. I didn't cry but my heart actually hurt afterwards.

so no subs then?

Don't suppose there's a great chance there'll be a DVD release in England?

Right-click and save as:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/bousourokku/RENAMEME.srt

Rename the srt according to the raw file you have originally mine was named:
[S^M] Hotaru no Haka Live Action RAW.srt

Had to change it because i cant remember what symbol is used to subsitute 'space bar' in file names when written in urls.

If that doesn't work, PM me your email address, and I'll email you the original .srt.

Thanks a lot Gaki, it worked like a charm.

I've dealt with subtitle files before and this one has been one of the few to cause me no issues at all.

I'm all excited to watch this now

I'll go first then because this is just after dinner, peak internet time for me! I'm not one of the OG posters and I only joined in 2010 or so but I'm here

So, I only watched Grave of the Fireflies the anime and I honestly didn't know there was a live-action version of it. I'm not sure I'll watch it - I mean, I honestly don't think it can outshine the anime. And a lot of anime live-action really left me with a sour taste - I'm looking at you Deathnote and especially you Ghost in the Shell, even if you did have a Danish actor in the film.

This anime was a classic. Absolutely perfect as it was originally created. The only reason I can think of to justify this live-action version is to introduce a new generation to this sad story.
