Hospital story

I am having a number of problems with a particular piece I am reading. My understanding is that the author is a hospital doctor. For context, the start of the text is like this:

十二月に入るとインフルエンザはいっそう流行した。予防注射を打ったいたわが家の子供たちも、次から次にインフルエンザにかかっていった。病院の廊下を歩いていると事務長に呼び止められた。

「昼過ぎに、ＮＨＫがインフルエンザの取材に来させて欲しいということです。お忙しいでしょうが、数分間インタビュうに答えてやってもらえませんか。」

1. Next sentence: 事務長にそう言われてから調査を始めた。

Does 調査 refer to the NHK survey? Is the subject of 始めた the NHK reporter(s)?

2. Next sentence: インフルエンザにやられてマスクをしている職員に聞いて回った。

a) What is やられて? It looks as if インフルエンザにやられて should mean "protecting against flu", but I don't see where that meaning comes from.

b) Is the subject of 聞いて回った the NHK reporter(s)?

3. Next sentence: 「 どんな症状だった？咳はでた？のど痛かった？熱は何度？吐いた？下痢した？体はだるかった？全部で何日かかった？」

At this point I am starting to feel a bit lost about who is doing what, and why. Why would reporters be asking 職員 what symptoms they have? Or are the reporters asking the staff to explain what symptoms the patients have?

Thank you both. So, let me get this straight.

1. From the parts I've quoted so far, can we definitely say that the writer is a member of staff in a hospital, quite possibly a doctor, but possibly also some other type of worker?

2. It is the staff in the hospital, not the patients, who have been affected by the flu (at least, as far as we can tell from the text quoted so far). Right?
