This guy is a great baseball player.

As a Yankees fan, I'd like to see a little more power from him but he's still one of the most clutch hitters in the game.

I like Matsui, too, and Ichiro.

I respect Nomo Hideo the most, though, because he really paved the ground for everyone after him who made the switch from Japanese to American baseball!

I can't stand the Yankees and being a Hanshin fan I hate Yomiuri, Matsui's old team. But I still like him, he is one of the best Japanese hitters around. I kind of had mixed feelings when he went to the Yanks, I was glad that the Giants would be weaker without him but also concerned that another top player was going to the states. Bummer.

I think Matsui is over rated. Yes he is a great hitter, but his fielding is suspect! I will admit that he has worked on it over the years and improved, but I still can't forget watching that ball bounce off his head his first year!

That happened to Jose Canseco one time too, very funny stuff. Matsui made a horrible play today that played a big part in costing them the game. He's been solid in the field for the most part though from what I've seen.

Is he as highly regarded in Japan as Americans think? Most over here act like he was the Babe Ruth of Japan.

Matsui was no Babe Ruth, but he was the best hitter in Japan at the time he left. In his last season in Japan he came very close to winning the triple crown, leading the league in home runs, RBI's and finishing a close second in batting average.

I'm more surprised that Kazuo Matsui has been pretty unimpressive in the majors. People were expecting big things for him, but they haven't materialized. Norihiro Nakamura's .120 batting average (or something like that) in the few games he has played with the Dodgers is less surprising.

Yeah, he sucked it up pretty bad. He's still very clutch though most of the time. I think he'll rebound next year, so I hope the Yankees re-sign him.
