Hey everyone! My friend introduced me to this forum today and just by clicking for a few minutes I am lost (in a good way! ^.^). There's so many topics here! I look forward to reading interesting stuff and meeting you guys! Anyway, I really enjoy Japanese culture, particularly the music and anime/manga culture.

While I was in Little Tokyo a few weeks ago, I bought this eraser set. It's looks pretty yummy, too bad not it's not edible.

Sorry about the quality..I had to take the pic using my camera phone. By the way, does anyone know what is the little pink thing with the green leaves wrapped about it?

It's not edible? Looks like it says 和菓子, which means Japanese candy.

Anyway, have fun here, and welcome!

Welcome, Pathos!

There are many unique erasers in Japan like this:

Some are scented as well. I used to collect erasers when I was a kid...

Now I'm confused.

Those are some pretty crazy erasers, though! That's pretty amazing detail just for something that's going to be used to get rid of graphite. It's a shame to use them, like you're destroying a piece of art.

I think it comes from Japan's tradition of craftsmanship (applied even to the trivial ) Most people actually don't use these erasers and regard them collector items.

Another variation are these restaurant samples (displayed in showcases in front of restaurants) made of plastic:

They're intriguing for foreign tourists and are hot-selling souvenirs. I gave one of these to a friend in America as "omiyage"!

Sorry I have no idea....the script on the packaging must be ヒ彗窶ーテ卩スq, I can't see
anything else close although the stylization is a bit odd.

Hi! I'm a new member too, Pathos' friend. I didn't know we were supposed to introduce ourselves here in Member intros, heheh...

I've read this forum for a while before joining, and I must say you have soooooooo many good topics!!! This forum got me more into Jpop/rock, so many thanks! I also love Japan in general... the people, culture, fashion, music, anime/manga, hahaha, I even took the language in high school for three years...

Hello and welcome to both of you. Hope you have fun

welcome to jref Pathos!I hope to see you and psychocynic in chat sometime!

Double Greetings from the Japan Alps to you both Pathos and psychocynic !!

I do hope that you eventually join in with some of the chit-chat and disscussion that we have here on Jref !! There's a lot !!

Now, epigene put up some good posts there, and we have a number of erasers in our collection--although the boys, perhaps being boys?, didn't take care of them and I know we have lost quite a few.

As for the little pink thing wrapped in what appears to be a leaf, isn't that a type of manju wrapped in a cherry leaf? At least that what it reminds me of.

See you folks 'round !!

welcome to the forum ! those erasers are really cute ! (^^) the fish is plastic :? it looks fresh. it want to eat it XDDD
