Hi, my name is Sarah, I'm eighteen years old and I have lived in England all my life. I am a student at the moment and have just discovered this site today. Since most of my friends' knowledge of Japan is limited to anime and black-haired horror characters (and the odd band I try to get them into ) I thought it would be great to sign up and talk to people who know that there is more to Japan than Ash Ketchum and horror films.
I have been interested in Japan for quite a few years now and have recently started to learn Japanese through self-tutoring. As for other languages, I speak basic French (despite learning it for about five years, lol) and a little Italian. And fluent English but you have probably figured that out ^_^.

I hope to meet wonderful people here .

xx

Welcome to Jref! I hope you find everything here that you are looking for! Good luck with your Japanese studies, and if you ever have a question, here's a great place to ask:

Need a word or phrase translated?

Welcome enjoy! You've come to the right place

Hihi! welcome to the forum...
I see you came to this forum to share your love for japanese with other people then your not-knowing-anything-about-japan friends...you should praise yourself happy with them! My friends get the Ash Ketchum-part, but the japanese horror films are unknown to them. So that leaves you with two topics to talk about and me with just one...kyaa, I'm already jealous...

Good that you speak french too, I like people who speak french :122: (I have to learn German too, boohoo) and about the odd band you're trying to get your friends into, which one is it? You've made me quite curious...I too have recently started to learn Japanese through self-tutoring...I wish you good luck an I hope to see you around on the forum!

Thanks everyone .

The only horror films they know about are the ones the Americans remade (unfortunately). And Battle Royale and Ichi The Killer. . Everytime I try to tell them that Ringu is way creepier than The Ring they just roll their eyes.

The bands? Well, I managed to get one of my friends into The GazettE, Alice Nine and Dir En Grey, and another into Dir En Grey. But when I showed another friend some of The GazettE's music she just made a strange face and said she doesn't like stuff she doesn't understand *sigh*.
And thank you, I wish you luck, too . It feels great to finally have the time to do something I want to do.

xx

Welcome to JREF FrostPixie, you should enjoy it on here, it has loads of good features. The J-Pop section in the Entertainment Forum should be of help to you if you into any of the Japanese music thats out there.

And Yay we got another Brit on the forum, have fun.

hey welcome to you too, sicsixsixx!
Hiro-san, are you discriminating?...another Brit? boohoo, is being Dutch not good enough? I am going to cry in the corner of my room now, being all alone and Dutch... FrostPixie say something...Hiro-san is acting mean again.....

Juno-chan stop your crying and get out of that corner, and leave that poor spider alone, he hasnt done anything to you, has he lol.

As for me being mean, Im terrible, aint I?

Hiro-san you're talking to me...hooray!
don't worry about the spider, I'm scared of spiders...I just painted this one pink, to go with my dinosaur in the backyard! and yes you're terrible, but then, saying this makes me quite a hypocrite...ohhh I see, this is going to be one of those 'my-horse-is-bigger-than-yours'-conversation. hooray once again! I'm more terrible than you are...once I've the right to vote, I will take over the world with the aid of my pink dinosaur and pink spider....yaa mata!
