I am not interested, but it's true that many Japanese tend to go to Norway or Alaska to view aurora.
I assume ... one of the reasons will be that Japanese like something mysterious of nature. Unlike Westerners/Islam/Jewish, Japanese don't have specific religion, but we often feel mysteriousness of nature or something religious from Tree, Water Fall, Mountain, Stone, River, etc. The same as Native Indians or Aborigines or Polynesians, etc. Aurora may be one of them.
