Hello everyone, I've been reading on this forum for a few weeks now and thought that I should finally register and start adding to the discussions. I had been learning Japanese in high school on my own but with nobody in my town to help me or even to ever use it I kind of gave up on the idea of learning it. I don't really ever watch that much anime but thats pretty much where my love for Japanese things started. I was hooked with Gundam Wing and have watched every gundam series besides the latter half of Victory Gundam. The only other anime I ever really could get into was Rurouni Kenshin and after watching every movie, ova, and episode I really liked the history aspects of the show so thats what drew me here was to read about the culture and things like that. I've also been interested in Bonsai since childhood and recently got my first tree back in January, its a Japanese Weeping Cherry Tree incase anyone was interested. The food of Japan, while there are some things I'm not to crazy about I really like some of their other things. I recently bought the app for the iphone "Human Japanese" it seems to be very good and blends learning along with a pretty good history lesson and reasons for the way things are the way they are. The first thing I noticed different about Human Japanese is that instead of teaching the words first it starts by teaching you the hiragana characters first. I know a few Japanese words but very little. So far I've learned half of the hiragana characters by heart and am adding more daily. So far I've only learned the A, Ka, Ga, Sa, Za, Ta, Da, and Na character sets but at least its a start.
