Hi

My name is Cam and I've just registered with this site.
My partner and I are planning to move to Japan to teach English with the intention of eventually buying a school (hopefully!).
We were wondering if anyone had any information on how difficult/easy it would be for a foreigner to obtain a mortgage/business loan from a Japanese bank.
Any info would be welcome.
Thanx!

Cam.

Getting a mortgage loan (for a house) is not easy (probably impossible) for a newbie with no credit in Japan. Takes a few years of serious employment for that. If you are planning to buy a school franchise, steer clear of Smith's, for one.

Glenski is right. One does not simply relocate, plop down some cash, and open a business 1-2-3... Qualifying for a mortgage or loans from Japanese lending institutions requires a lot of patience and some healthy assets. If you're serious, you need to plan well in advance. It's taken me just over five years now to finally have my own home and language school up and running.
