I was looking at Asahi's article on the recent soccer game, and I'm a bit confused by something. It says 日本、PKで豪破り、４強 サッカーアジア杯. My problem regards the 4強. I can only interpret this as meaning "more than 4," but I don't know what that could be in reference to. At least that's the only meaning I know for 数字＋強, but now I'm wondering if it might mean that Japan won by a score of 4 to something.

Incidentally, Sankei also uses that phrasing. Their headline is 日本、ＰＫ戦

見落としてしまいました。

この場合は、ベスト４（準決勝）に進出しまった という意味ですが、多分、「数字＋強」が意味で使われるのが通常じゃないと思いますね。。。
