Which preposition is correct in each sentence?
(a) He sat [ in / on / into / onto ] the back seat of his father's van.
(b) He sat down [ in / on / into / onto ] the back seat of his father's van.

I think there are multiple possible answers but this is what I would say

(a) He sat in the back seat of his father's van.
(b) He sat down on the back seat of his father's van.
