Is there such a thing as a hand held Navi GPS you can rent for Japan? I am super worried about getting lost trying to get around in the cities. Hell I'm lost all the time in my own city that I've grown up in! :D I absolutely depend on the google maps on my iPhone to get me around everywhere in the US. But I won't have iPhone service in Japan... so is there like a equivalent device I could rent there that can give me step be step directions around town?

People rely too much on technology these days, IMO. Just buy a map and/or guidebook. That's what people have been doing for decades, and that's what information centers are for.

The GPS on your iPhone will still work, even without service. The problem is that you need to have maps loaded into the iPhone. If you need greats maps, can handle a Japanese interface, and don't need routing: use MapFan. If you can get by with lesser maps, need an English interface, or need routing ability: use GoGo Navigator.

Oh i didn't know GPS will still work without service! I'llcheck out this gogo navigator... I might be just the ticket...
