Hi everyone!
I just joined up today while looking for information on the MEXT scholarship. Looks like a nice forum! My name is Eliza Frye, I'm a Japanese BA student at UCLA with graduation looming. I studied character animation at Calarts for a year and am currently working on a short film about Japanese street fashion and aesthetics.
In that vein, I'm also looking at graduate study in Japan. The websites for Japanese universities seems to be extremely limited, even on the Japanese side, and I've been having trouble assessing programs. I've been looking at Keio, Kyoto U and Waseda for their aesthetics programs but other than now knowing that they have such courses... I haven't been able to learn much. Does anyone know about the letters grad schools at these universities? What are they like?
I've also been considering continuing my study in film, but the offerings at the graduate level seem very limited. Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku had some stuff but it's all very loosly defined. What kind of film program is it? Are there any other good ones? Possibly animation as well? (Though it seems like the animation industry in Japan mostly runs on the apprentice system...)
Anyway, thanks in advance and nice to meetcha!
