Just watched this J-Drama...i Loved it!!!
Matsumoto Jun was so cool adn sleek adn good looking in this show!! It was odd seeing it after watching Kimi wa Petto...but it made you love him even more!!
I hated that tehy never ended the love story part - but left it wide open!! ahhh but its still soo good...funny adn sad and all in between!!
Anyone else watched it?? i am hesitant to watch Gokusen 2...heard mixed reviews...and Jun isnt in it...how sad is that!??!

well, the lead character (nakama yukie) IS a school teacher?

i liked him in kimi wa petto so much more -- (in gokusen) i was like this dude ain't even acting he's just being cool or something

I've watched it and wasn't terribly impressed by it. GTO was a much better school drama, gokusen seems like a bit of a ripoff with reversed sex roles.

onizuka is raw all the time and never pretends to be polite or is secretive about being a yankee

hmm on 2nd it is similar in some themes. ie teacher needing to gain confidence of disiilusioned students?

but that could be said for dragon sakura or kinpachi sensei also? proabably rookies too? it was for koi ga shitai as well

which reminds me, i wanna know what it is about men who are teachers at girl schools being the heroes or protagonists all the time

Most of the parallels I've drawn between the two are between the themes and character development: dealing with only one student or so each episode, by the end of which the student's confidence has been gained, and finally the fellow teachers and head teacher- the principal is the cool one on the staff and on the protagonist's side.

I found GTO more exciting and less cheezy than Gokusen in general; but when I watch dramas like this, I can't help but expect some cheese. Perhaps the acting and writing for GTO was just better, and since I saw that first, I couldn't help but feel that Gokusen was just trying to capitalize on the emotions GTO had successfully evoked. The fact that there is a second season of Gokusen (after the main plot issue has been resolved) kind of drove that home for me.

I did watch some of the anime for both shows, and found them better than the live action in some respects. I can only imagine the manga would focus more on Yankumi's trials and tribulations, leading her kind of double life, being from a gangster family, hold a respectable vocation, and have a detective for a love interest.

I've only seen one episode of Dragon Sakura, but it seemed alright; perhaps it's because I find Abe Hiroshi to be a better actor than Nakama Yukie... Can't really speak for the plotline though.

i finished watching all of season one tonight and i thought it was a good drama. I looked forward to when season two will be fansubbed for the japanese inept like myself.
