Gazza Massacre.....

Emoni,i qoute this from Aljazeerah.

Hamas and several allied Palestinian factions have announced a conditional, one-week ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, giving Israel seven days to pull out of the territory.

The move, following a meeting of the factions in Damascus, comes a day after Israel announced a unilateral ceasefire, ending its 22-day offensive in Gaza which has left at least 1,203 Palestinians dead.

"We in the Palestinian resistance movements announce a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and demand that enemy forces withdraw in a week and open all the border crossings to permit the entry of humanitarian aid and basic goods," Mousa Abu Marzuk, deputy leader of Hamas's political bureau, said in Damascus on Sunday.

Besides Hamas, Palestinian factions at the Damascus meeting included Islamic Jihad, al-Nidal, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and al-Saeqa.

Israeli response

The Israel military said on Sunday that troops withdrawals had begun from key positions in and around Gaza City.

However, Israel earlier said that it will not consider a timetable for withdrawing all of its forces from the Gaza Strip until Hamas and other groups halt their fire.

Speaking to Al Jazeera on Sunday, Avital Leibovich, an Israeli military spokesperson, said: "I am sorry, Hamas will not give Israel a deadline to pull out its troops.

"We will pull out the troops if and when we will decide that a permanent safe and secure situation has arrived in our country - which has not [yet]. Since from the morning we were targeted by 16 rockets from Hamas.

"We have to assess the situation every day and then see whether we are heading towards a stable secure situation or [if] we have to continue the operation.

"The operation is not over. This is only a holding of fire."

'Objectives achieved'

Palestinian factions have continued to fire rockets into southern Israel since the beginning of the offensive, killing three Israelis, out of a total of 13 Israelis that have died since the begining of the war.

They have also been fighting Israel's ground forces which enterd the Gaza Strip in the second week of the offensive.

An end to rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israel was the stated aim of the Israeli offensive.

Israel declared a unilateral ceasefire on Saturday, with Ehud Olmert, the prime minister, stating that the country had achieved its objectives.

"We have reached all the goals of the war, and beyond," he said. "[But] if our enemies decide to strike and want to carry on, then the Israeli army will regard itself as free to respond with force."

Olmert also said the war boosted Israel's deterrence and that Hamas's actions would decide when the military would withdraw.

"This operation strengthened the deterrence of the state of Israel in the face of all those who threaten us," he said.

"If Hamas completely stops its attacks, we will judge at what moment we will leave the Gaza Strip."

'Symbolic victory'

However, Ayman Mohyeldin, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Gaza City, said some in the Gaza Strip are claiming a victory for Hamas and other Palestinian factions.

"On an operational level on the last day of the war and even after the war Palestinian factions are still capable of firing rockets, no doubt about that.

Hamas and Israel declared independent ceasefires each with separate terms [AFP]
"In fact, more than a dozen or so have been fired today according to the factions here on the ground.

"On a symbolic level, at the end of the day the Palestinian people remain here on the ground, having paid a very heavy price though.

"Their position was one of steadfast defiance. The fact that they can stay and essentially ... claim that they have been able to stave off this aggression, in terms of the leadership and the command and control structure of Hamas and the government here, is certainly a sign for many here that they have been victorious."

'Extremely fragile'

At least 16 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Sunday morning after it declared its ceasefire.

Israel responded with air attacks, according to Israeli sources.

Barnaby Phillips, Al Jazeera's correspondent, reporting from near the Gaza-Israel border, said that the situation is extremely fragile.

"This ceasefire ... could go horribly wrong at any moment. There are thousands of troops in Gaza. We did see some withdraw we think this morning, we are not sure of numbers but they are in close proximity to Hamas fighters," he said.

Israel is pulling out and Hamas has stopped rocket fire for now, after sending in almost 20 rockets before the pull out announcement during the cease fire...

The question is "now what?"

(If anyone knows of an English report from the Middle East on this event, it would be interesting to see it posted.)

Ceasefire ends 22-day Operation Cast Lead

Sunday, Jan. 18, Hamas leader Mussa Abu Marzuk in Damascus declared an immediate ceasefire on behalf of all the Palestinian organizations conditional on Israel's withdrawal from Gaza within a week. A few minutes later, two rockets exploded in two kibbutzim near the Gaza border, topping 15 fired earlier at Sderot, Ashkelon, Eshkol, Ashdod and Kiryat Gat. DEBKAfile's military sources report that armed Hamas units are moving to take control of the Gaza Strip as Israeli forces withdraw.

The Israeli security cabinet in a special meeting Saturday night, Jan. 17, approved a unilateral halt in military operations in the Gaza Strip from 0200 hours while leaving Operation Cast Lead forces in Gaza to test Hamas' response.

Although prime minister Ehud Olmert assured the nation that all the Gaza operation's goals had been reached, Hamas promised to keep on fighting and shooting rockets, while neither Washington nor Cairo guaranteed action to end the flow of weapons to Gaza.

Sunday, a large group of European leaders from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic descended on Jerusalem.

DEBKAfile's sources report they came ostensibly to show the flag for Israel, but they were also on hand to ascertain that the Israeli military quit the Gaza Strip – even without the operation's goals being met – and also to lean hard on Israel to open the six Gaza crossings as demanded by Hamas. Earlier, they met Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak at Sharm e-Sheikh.

The plan the European leaders have developed with Egypt provides a $1.6 billion aid package for the Gaza Strip's reconstruction.

The millions of tons of cement and supplies will be shipped to Israeli ports and delivered through the Gaza crossings over a period of years. Israel, they believe, will not be able to refuse to reopen the crossings, thereby bringing its embargo of the Gaza Strip to an end.

as i said,Israel is the terrorism creater who doesnt respect people and laws.

Where you getting that statement.

(Noticehow no one EVER tries to go into depth on how things might be handled or resolved and answer my initial question, and only ONLY focus on blaming one side and trying to speak of divine judgment.)

the problem that Israel not only want to live in peace in palestine but also it has ambitions to occupy other countries and make ( Great Israel )
and this picture will explain what I'm talking about ....

A picture with a big mess of red MS paint lines doesn't EXPLAIN anything at all. I could care less what Israel's alleged ambitions are from someone who pretty much hates everyone on that side anyway, there are plenty (far more I'm sure) that have ambitions to wipe all Israelis and Jews out completely. I also don't care about hearing bigoted rants about why. This sort of behavior is why you need the patience of a saint to deal with this crap, and why many people walk away and just say, "Screw this, let them all kill themselves."

Instead of shouting all sorts of very poorly unsupported claims with pictures and clearly biased reports which very few of us have the time to sort through and cherry pick "truth" from, at least TRY to answer my question about what steps you feel from this point forward would lead to a lasting peace and solution.

I qouted this from Aljazeera.
Notice: Aljazeera always call the israelian side ans ask them and make some discussions with them.

I believe his point was that Al Jazeera is a "neutral" and "unbiased" news agency.

Either he failed to articulate what he meant or I misunderstood.

It's a video with poor grammar, clips of angry kids, and sad music to pull at emotions. Nothing new here, and no new arguments made. Children died and were caught in the attack, an attack that could have been more carefully done or avoided in some way (of which I'm not sure).

Welcome to war. This is extremely common in war, which is why it is awful.

That is all I see. Is this supposed to pull heart strings and make me start hating Israel or something? My stance is I simply don't think much of either side, but I do commonly read (from a variety of sources) Hamas as the one sending over suicide bombers, and Hamas now firing rockets during the ceasefire (again...) into Israel. Notice I'm stressing Hamas, no Palestine. I have seen no reason to believes that it is the general innocent populous on BOTH sides in this conflict.

I see two stupid governments and a ton of extremist idiots at their disposal perpetuating the fighting.

I was going to post about that, to ask what is being said in the news about the new rockets being fired into Israel and the declaration of retaliation from Israel.

The only way to stop the massacre is to first estinguish the fire which is sourced from america, the smoke will disappear after the fire estinguished.

We understand that very well Proud Asian Kid,you are right,But Israel won't understand it.They only understand the Rockets and fire.Devils...
I am sure they will attack Lebanon again and Gazza too,and when they do Hamas and Hizbullah should be ready.

I've never been in favor of the Islamic regime. This regime intends to remove all woman rights by giving the right of men to use woman as an object or a sexual toy. It is also written in the Koran that man can use strengh to discipline his wife and he can also have four wives.
The Hamas is considered as a terrorist organization by many countries (Canada, USA, Israel, European Union, Japan, etc...). The actual problem is that Hamas is the leader of the Gaza Strip. They disperse their forces in way to compel the Tsahal soldiers to kill innocent people.
It is necessary to use military forces in order to fight this islamic organization. Since 1994, here's a list of the terrorist attacks from Hamas:

It is in French but I don't have the time to translate everything but I'm sure you can understand a little bit that list.
So hundreeds of suicide bombers killed thoursands of innocent israelis. Unlike the hundreed of Palestinian who got killed by accident by the Tsahal, those massive bomb attacks inside the Israel territory were destinated to kill innocent people.
