Oh lordy another another argument to state my opinion on xD RANT TIME~!
I don't agree with the widespread stereotypical view on Visual Kei, every single VK band will tell you that the music is just as/if not more than important than their look. Every movement of music has had some sort of distinctive stylized look; I mean, look at punk, look at disco, look at every music genre possible. Didn't they all have looks to compliment their music? They were never labeled as neglectful to music quality when they were popular. So why is Visual Kei any different?
some sources state that Visual Kei's unique clothing and make-up fashions, and participation in the related sub-culture, is equally as important as the sound of the music itself in the use of the term.

Visual Kei is just another music movement of style, just like every other movement it will fade and become unfashionable, but at present it IS fashionable and desirable in the world of fans. It's crown pleasing, it's a way to make bands stand out, but it isn't all the bands care about.
I really don't understand why their look gives people the impression that they concentrate more on their image than their music. I wonder how those that are quick to judge would see the bands if they dressed in average, boring clothes.
It's seen in art as it is in music. Music is a form of art, it has its movements in style just as artwork always has had.
Quite frankly, I am sick and tired of hearing the phrase "They dress like girls." How many girls walk down the street in VK clothing? So now apparently, dressing ultra-stylishly is something only girls do. Makeup isn't restricted to girls either, you don't see 'ONLY FOR GIRLS' stamped on makeup. It's a completely ridiculous view.
In honest opinion, I feel sorry for the narrow-minded people that simply cannot see beyond Visual Kei band's looks. They sit back and insult them and their fanbases yet very few have ever even sampled their music; if they did I'm sure then would have a nasty wake up call about exactly what they were scrutinizing without any real knowledge. A lot of people foreign to the Japanese language are put off by that alone...
They have no idea what they are missing out on, some of the most beautifully written and composed music comes from the world of Visual Kei, the most striking and meaningful lyrics and just the pure mastery these bands have over their instruments. It's a shame really...
This is my view on things, I know people's interpretations and opinions differ, but please do not attack me if you do not agree.
[edit] Oh good grief, this made my go wide-eyes during MATPS now I've found a slow motion gif
