"For Promotional Use Only"

Hi there everyone,

How would you write 'for promotional use only' in Japanese?

As you can probably guess, this is for a label to be placed on a product. I do know some Japanese, including some kanji as well as basic grammar, and have some pretty helpful books, but I don't know where to start on that one as it isn't really a proper sentence. It's a kind of imperative but I have no idea what form it would take in Japanese.

Any help very much appreciated! (And if anyone is able to post the kanji in big, that would be fantastic, so I could see the detail of them... sometimes the typing is a little hard to make out when it comes to details. :sorry: )

If it's for a CD, the term seems to be プロモーション盤 (プロモ盤). Otherwise it looks like 非売品 is the term.

Yes, it is for a CD - so would プロモーション盤 be the correct term in that case? Or would 非売品 be better?

And why does Glenn's second example begin with the kanji 非売 whereas Grapefruit has a phrase beginning with 試供? Which is better to use for CD?

I think プロモーション盤 is best in case of a CD.
プロモ盤 is only the shortened version of the same word. This can be used if you don't have much space on the label.

All the words suggested are right, but depending on circumstances.
非売品 literally means "not for sale"
試供品 is used for giveaway samples of products such as cosmetics or foods.

That would be "puromooshonban."

Also 宣伝用 （せんせんよう） is a possibility.

(And you can always increase the display size in your browser to temporarily see characters larger).

I've actually seen this on a few of my independant labled CDs I bought.

As for the text size, it doesn't work here as the text is restricted to the CSS. It's pain sometimes trying to read those 24 stroked kanjis.

I don't presume to actually know the answer to this, but shouldn't this be プロモーション版?

I'm pretty sure I copied and pasted from a Google search (I seem to remember answering at work, where I don't have Japanese IME), so I'm pretty sure it isn't 版.

OK, I have never come across such an item, so it just seemed to me that 窶敕 would be more natural. When Epigene didn't object, it should have been my first clue that nothing was amiss, I suppose.

Perhaps, but it seems that I've been wrong before with no one objecting, so I gave up on using that as an indication of correctness or validity of anything a while ago. Obviously, that doesn't mean it's wrong, either.

I figured 盤 was used because it's for CDs, and they are pretty much sound platters, you know? lol

Using my idea also implies that the contents of the CD might be different from one made to be sold, too. In other words, 窶敕 seems to me to refer to the actual disk whereas 窶敕 seems to me to refer to the contents thereof.

I think that both 版 and 盤 make sense, but the connotation might be a bit different.
To me プロモ盤 (CDs for promotional purposes) sounds natural, and it indicates speciflcally CD.
When there are several CD we are talking about and when I want to point one out as "... and this one is the promotional version" then I would use プロモ版 instead of プロモ盤.

This came just from my feelings and without any official(?) background or anything... Thought I'd throw in my two yen.
