The University of Tsukuba makes history by becoming the first Japanese university to establish an overseas branch granting degrees. This new campus will open in Kuala Lumpur in September and will be known as the "School of Transdisciplinary Science and Design." Its mission is to "equip students from Malaysia and neighbouring countries with the skills to address global challenges impacting Southeast Asian nations."

Tsukuba has been international oriented for a long time. Some of my gaijin friends in the 1990s were post-grad researchers there.
