so this has been discussed in different, non-fangirl-related threads (^_^), but i just thought of a question:

which came first, the fangirl or the bands? by that, i mean in the VK scene, did the fanservice/ pretty-boy looks of bands CREATE the fangirl as we know her today, or did bands *conform* to the ideals of fangirls? if that makes sense...

also, anything fangirl-related (NOT as in fangirls-come-and-squee-over-here, as in discussion ABOUT fangirls) can go here as well.

don't beat each other to death :-)

I would say the bands came first and then the fans who turned into fangirls as we call them today.
Without a band you cannot be a true fangirl...That is all.

I agree. I think the bands came before the fangirls too. Though i think the 'fangirl-ing' stuff exists for a long time. i'm not only talking about jrock right now. Look the fans of hollywood actors.. Some people just go crazy to get a glimp of there favorite. I think some people just overreacting >__>

BTW:
This question reminds me of the one 'Who was first the chicken ore the egg' xD

i think the bands encourage fangirl-ism....
like they dress up and do fanservice ..... and well it works ^^ツ≫?ケ
its like its a way to get launched in the lusical scene...
its just my opinion though :p:p

I think if you speak about j-rock fangirls than the bands were first...because you can't be a j-rock fangirl when there's no band :p
and I also think that the bands don't do anything special to "create" fangirls, although they're surely not unhappy to have them and I bet that they are aware that their behaviour (fanservice, the way they dress) encourages a lot of people, like EnvY said^^
but if you speak in general of fangirls than I have to say they were first...
I agree with Amaya that there are also fangirls beside the j-rock bussines and they also behave very strangely^^...there were, for example, a lot of girls who admired the beatles (I know that this is not the best example^^) and you could tell them fangirls

well i'm talking about the fanservice/pretty and efimate looks... i think those may have carried over from yaoi/manga/anime or something...

and now that bands know that stuff all sells, do you think they do it BECAUSE of the fangirls? i don't get the impression guys in bands would make out with other guys on their own time... fanservice is all played to the audience and i think it's very weird... like maybe producers of bands encourage it because it will gain them popularity. like with Dir en grey, they used to do more subtle fanservice when they were VK. now... XD no way. imagine fanservicing at wacken or family values tour XD

and yesh, the chicken and the egg thing was in my mind while i phrased the question ^_^

I agree...
But i don't mind they do that :p
And if thats a way of earning money, it's easy! Except for the kissing between 2 boys thingie...
