I put this in the news section because it's related to how the news is gathered in Japan. If someone thinks it would be better in another subforum, please move it.
Have you ever been called to do an poll for the Japanese news? I have randomly been selected twice, most recently last month, to participate in an NHK poll.
The first time was back when the Diet was discussing privatizing the post office. At the time, I told the person at the other side of the telephone that I wasn't a Japanese citizen, so I felt that my opinion would be irrelevant. I don't think she believed me that I wasn't Japanese, but she acquiesed to my wishes and hung up.
The second time was about the introduction of juries in the legal system. This time I did participate, as it was about something already decided upon rather than possible future policy. It was very interesting, and being out of the blue I was a bit caught off-guard, but I'm glad I participated.
