What if "elected" goes in the parenthesis? What would it mean?

Very little difference Dutch, here are two fictional sentences with virtually the same meaning :-

'Hillary Clinton hopes that she will be the first woman elected as President'

'Hillary Clinton hopes that she will be the first woman to be elected as President'

Both sentences roughly mean the same thing, but the second places more emphasis on the future sense of Elected.

Yes. In my view it makes something sound a lot stronger when speaking to someone.

Here are another two fictional sentences, slightly off topic lol, but should help you understand :-

'Do you want banning for what you said to her?'

'Do you want to be banned for what you said to her?'

The use of 'to be' makes it sound more personnal and direct. Hope you understand.

The meaning is the same - but to add "to be" does make it sound stronger. You can also say, "Hillary Clinton was the first woman to be elected president" (but that's looking too far into the future)! Hee, hee
