The Edo-Tokyo Museum is scheduled to reopen next Tuesday, 31 March 2026, after four years of renovations!

The Edo-Tokyo Museum opened its newly refurbished exhibits to the media on 25 March, after four years of large-scale renovation. The overhaul comes just ahead of the museum's reopening on 31 March. Several new displays have been added. These include reconstructions of the Time Bell, the gate of Asakusa Hanayashiki and the Dojunkai Daikanyama Apartments, all intended to give a clearer sense of how Tokyo developed over time. The Nakamuraza theatre has also been reworked, and visitors can now enter the interior.

Some existing exhibits have also been changed. A large model that once showed the Asano Newspaper Company has been updated using historical records and now depicts the Hattori Watch Shop. Outside, the museum has introduced new installations. These are meant to lead visitors gradually from the present day back into the Edo period, though the transition is kept fairly simple rather than dramatic.
