Has anyone in Germany seen the German film "Der Untergang" aka Downfall? Or heard about it? It looks very good!!
The film is about Hitler and the last 12 days in the bunker before his suicide, and the film is another big sign that the taboo of mentioning or discussing Hitler is broken in Germany.
The film Der Untergang is much discussed in Germany nowadays. Not because it is about Hitler窶冱 last days, but also because it is exceptional that a film depicts Hitler as a human being, ie his (rather sickly)character.
Both critics and historians have spoken nicely about the film and give credit to Bruno Ganz for his convincing role as Hitler.
Especially one historian, and a one of the great authorities on Hitler and the Nazi Regime, Professor Ian Kershaw, has written in the paper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the film is a triumph and a great historical drama. Moreover, of all the portraits of Hitler, only this once has convinced him, and the dark, and sinister atmosphere in the bunker before his suicide.
The film is the first successful film which focuses on Hitler, and still many believe it is wrong to depict Hitler on the big screen. Others believe that the film is necessary.
When it had premiere in Germany, 483.585 bought a ticket, and after two weeks 1.8 million Germans had seen the film.
The film is based on studies by Joachim Fest, a German historian, and some parts are taken from the memoirs of Hitler窶冱 secretary, Traudl Junge, for use in the script.

).But here in Holland many people go c the movie.200.000 people have seen it already and that was in the first week(maybe you think it isnt many ppl but there live only 16 mil ppl here ^_^)
