I am sure that everyone here has experienced Deja Vu at least once. How often do you experience Deja vu? I often wonder if when this happens we are recalling a similar experience from another lifetime. It certainly feels weird when it happens.

Happens to me very frequently. I don't understand it either. But I'd like to think of it, when someone makes a time travel back to the past, it affects the future, hence deja vu sometimes. Just my own little theory :-)

It varies a lot for me. I can get gaps between of a couple of days to a couple of months...

One of the most plausible theories I've heard, is that it is due to electrical activity in the brain. Sometimes when this reaches a serious level, we suffer what we call a 'stroke' which can be extremely debilitating or even deadly. However in reality we suffer a series of 'little strokes' throughout our lifetime without actually realizing it.

In simple terms, scientists believe that during these little strokes, the greatly increased electrical activity in the brain causes the part of the brain associated with our conciousness to temporarily fuse with the area responsible for our memory, so we feel that what we are seeing is something that has happened before.

Here is another plausible theory I heard. As you are having experiences, your brain is creating areas to put the memories for those experiences - think of them as little hollows, and the memories are like marbles that sit in those hollows. Sometimes there are hollows left over. When you are having a new experience, one of your new marbles goes into an old hollow, so you feel like it happened before.

That's a really cool idea, Tsuyoiko! It's interesting reasoning and I love the "marbles" image also. :-) (I guess when you get more experiences than hollows, you start to lose your marbles... )

I have very, very rarely had deja vu. But I have had a kind of reverse version of it. :? It has quite often happened to me that I'll be in a place, doing something perfectly ordinary, and will get a distinct, clear impression of the future. I don't mean like a vision in a crystal ball or something! 😊 I mean... for example, one time I was walking down a random street in a random city, and suddenly I knew "one day I will live and work near here". It seemed to me complete rubbish at the time, but two years later, yes it was true, and now I walk on those streets regularly.

Of course, it could be that the nonsense thought, although I forgot about it, subconsciously influenced my choice of job... :?
