What does the "san" on the end of a persons name mean I have seen this many times and it still makes no sense to me. I thought "san" was three.........

in the Japanese language, a word that is attached to the end of one's surname or first name in order to express respect to the person
-san / Mr. / Ms / Miss / Master / Mrs.
2 in the Japanese language, a word that is attached to the end of one's surname or first name in order to express respect to the person

3 in the Japanese language, a polite word that is attached to the end of one's surname or first name in order to express respect to the person

Just to clarify a little more...san doesn't literally translate into Mr. Ms. etc. It's just the closest thing that can explain it's usage. While Mr. Ms. etc. is used exclusively with the surname, -san can be attached to the given name as well.

That makes sense I guess, lol, I always wondered why someone would say a persons name then say "three". Now it makes sense so its a way of respect....
