I was wondering what most Japanese use to boil water for their tea? Do they use the traditional kettle or do they use an electric kettle? Do they use glass, stainless steel or plastic kettles? Just something I began to wonder when I used a regular Black and Decker plastic kettle which made the water smell and taste funny.

Make sure it's Pyrex-glass or steel. No plastics!! Like Nagashima-san says, a cast-iron kettle is best. Many people use the electric water boiling pot for everyday use. Personally, I won't use the electric pot with the best green teas.
