Im thinking of adding tokyo to my backpacking trip but i have heard you can end up spending a small fortune can anybody let me know how easy it is to get by on a budget im looking at going for a week. Thanks.

You can spend a small fortune practically anywhere in this country. Whether you do or not is entirely up to you.

The prices in Japan is not that expensive any longer. Its probably more expensive in London. I live in Norway and Norway is alot more expensive than Japan. Japan is probabaly like Germany or Spain. Not cheap but not too expensive either.

It depends entirely on how you live and what you want to do. It's the same in practically all major cities worldwide. It just comes down to common sense.

I spent about $1000 in Japan in two weeks. But that was for food, drinks, snacks, souvenirs, and subway ride.... That was between me and my wife.

The most expensive part is finding cheap lodging. You can get a lot of food for very little money in Tokyo. Ramen is the best "cheap" food. 400 yen and your tummy is full! :)
