OK i'm putting a book together for self publishing but i need a front cover i found a picture i adore but it is of a celebrity i was wonering is it against copywright to use the image even if the image has been put through sevral filters?
I don't know how the law about copy right works in UK, but generally speaking, if it is a photo of a celebrity, he/she can claim portraight right, also sometimes the copy right belongs to the photographer or publisher. It should be the same even it is "filtered", I guess.
If you are binding a book for yourself and just make one original for yourself, it should be all right. But if you are going to make several copies and distribute them to otheres, you'd better to use such image for the covering, or should obtain the permission from the person who has the copyright in advance, to be on the safe side...
