Claus von Stauffenberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It was 69 years ago today that Claus von Stauffenberg planted a bomb in attempt to kill Adolf Hitler. Although he failed and was executed for it, I salute this man every year for havingl the courage to attempt to take down such a foul, evil despot. If only there were more men with such conviction and courage, such daring and independent intellect, the world would never have the sort of scum that preys on whistle blowers and spys on their own people.

As I do every year on this day, I salute you Claus von Stauffenberg! May more people come to remember and honor you and your sacrifice, and may more people follow your example while getting it right and attacking the truly evil only.

A brave man indeed, who was honoured as the subject of Tom Cruise's film 'Valkyrie'.

Of the many who sacrificed their lives opposing Hitler and the Nazis, I'd like to mention Johann Elser who also attempted and tragically, failed to assassinate Hitler in 1939. He is possibly even more worthy of our respect as he chose to act alone, before Hitler's evil ideology and actions could be fully carried out.

After the bombing, Elser was captured by the Gestapo as he attempted to enter Switzerland and was interrogated and tortured for over a year by the Gestapo. During his horrific ordeal at the hands of the Gestapo he gained the respect of the Head of Police who was investigating the bombing … this probably led to Elser's life being prolonged. They could not prove he was the assassin and he was sent to a concentration camp.

He was executed (on direct orders from Hitler) at Dachau Concentration camp in April 1945 …. Just one month before the German surrender!
