buying digital camera in japan

1) maximum movie time of 30secs in high quality, or 3min in low quality.

You can jack that ****** up (ok not jack - increase by 6) with a FIRMWARE hack - which I did on mine. Worked great.

2) can't use device as a usb drive, you can't load anything onto the camera via the pc

o_0 - really. . .I know I moved pictures files freely from CAM to PC and vice-versa. . .interesting. . .

3) doesn't work as a webcam

I only tried the program that worked as a live-stream. . .was able to use the camera as a defacto pc-cam - didnt try it on the web though.

The Camera's always come out in Japan before anywhere else (the JP ones anyway) and are usually cheaper than the current ones in the US.

Those arent comperable models though. Of course itll be cheaper there than here. . .since the introduction of the new model hasnt affected the price in the states yet.

500MB SD card 25-50EURO
1GB 50-110EURO *Not sure it is compatible with PowerShot A520

The difference is in length of warranty, 1 to 5yr or only at the purchase, or brand ones or in bulk (we sometimes call it "no brand" memory). Generally big discount stores such as Big Camera, Yodobashi Camera or wherever, they don't sell "no brand" SD cards. When you don't intend to browsing around Akihabara for cheaper SD cards, you should prepare 50 or 100EURO for the cards. Some say they'd cause compatibility problems.

Battery charger with 4 AA NiMH batteries 22-25EURO

Hope you have a nice time with your new camera in Japan.

My boss from my old company is Bosnian as well, and I remember him saying that there wasn't a good selection there. I also think tarriffs are high there, right? In that case, I would recommend buying one in Japan, and throwing away the box and saying you bought it before, so you don't pay taxes on the way in.

thanks... thats true.. its like no selection at all... :( but thanks... hopefully i will find what i am looking for... but nevermind if i dont... what i am really looking for is fun, learning, and see japan... finally, this will be my dream come true... i wont care about camera anymore :)
