Hey guys, a friend of mine is looking for a place to get a quality BURGER in the Tokyo area.

I already know about TGIF... but are there any other yummy burger joints around?

Maybe your friend can try Mos Burger.
 
Go to Genki Burger near Waseda. They use full half pound patties, plus you can get it with just about anything...I liked mine with gouda cheese and bacon. The chef is kind of a jackass, but the food is good. I wonder if it's still there...Hit the Waseda subway station, exit on Waseda dori, head towards Takadanobaba and it'll be on your left side next to a bank at a 3 way intersection. The canopy says Genki Genki Genki (in kanji of course) and is next to a konbini...I think a Family Mart. I went there last June, so I'm hoping it's still there. G'luck.

Only bad thing...no fries. The omelette rice is good though
 
There is a Hawaiian burger place (at least the name seems that way) in Aoyama, between Shibuya and Harajuku, it is on the corner of Aoyama dori and Omoteisando.
It was the best burger I had while living in Tokyo.

I think it is names Kuana Kuana, or something like that. I can't remember.

If the pretentious atmosphere at the Hard Rock Cafe in Roppongi bothers you, great burgers can also be found at nearby Johnny Rockets. Across the street from Kinokuniya supermarket (one block south of Omotesando subway station) there's a new Hawaiian burger restaurant called Kua' Aina. The prices are reasonable and the huge burgers among the best you'll find in Tokyo.

Genki burger isn't a corporation or a chain. It's just a guy and his wife who run a store...I'm pretty sure.

Sasebo city is known for burgers that tend to be larger than ordinary sandwiches.
There are a few Sasebo-style burger places in Tokyo too.

I know how you feel Harvey. Mos tends to be far too small for that real burger feel. The same goes for the rest of the fast food market (lotteria, first kitchen, mickey d's of course). Genki isn't the best ever, but it was as good as TGIF's, cheaper and with weird random toppings. That said, getting it a couple of times should satiate your burger craving for a while.

wow, you guys bring back memories.. I used to go eat at genki burger every day... it was 3 blocks from my dorm.. before class at Waseda I used to grab one of Genki burgers.... and yes the cook was a smart *** but i enjoyed him... his wife used to tell him to shut up LOL:D

shoot i would get the cream cheese and egg and tomato and anything he felt brave enough to put on the burger...

I cant remember how many times i almost fell asleep in class because of that place...
my buddy lives in japan now and says its gone, but while i attended waseda it was the great!

:gulp: Hmmm I love Mos Burger's burgers... their sauce is delicious
Sasebo burgers (I was stationed there) are just big burgers with all the fixings and an egg on top... nothing really special.
I can't really speak for Tokyo though, I would go with the mom and pop places though if Mos Burger is not your thing.
 
A buddy told me that there's a burger place that mixes wasabi in with their ground beef. Has anyone been to a place like that? A wasabi burger sounds really good!
 
I agree that Mos burger is small.. oh wait they have a double now! had one last year in Yokohama... it's so cute the way the girl behind the counter said "doubl-rue" 😊
 
In addition to the above comments, there are a few Outback Steak Houses (I've been to those near the Makuhari in Chiba and in Machiya, Western Tokyo) and the Hard Rock Cafe in Roppongi. As for Mos Burger, I always thought of those as meatloaf burgers.
