Birthday greetings in Japan?

How do birthday greetings in Japan usually go?
Does anything else accompany the usual 'happy birthday'?

You're right Furan. "O'tanjobi Omedetto!!!" ...2 years ago, I went to my brother-in-law's house to celebrate his kids birthdays. There was a small cake for each of the kids, and the ceremonial candle blowing. Along with a birthday song, BUT not the one sung in America. I really wish I knew how it went now. I forgot. q(@_@)p

They often sing happy birthday in English (or a manner of English anyway).

Cakes are a little different to what most of us are used to I think. Japanese birthday cakes often have large and small candles. The large candles count represent 10 years and the small candles are 1 year. So if you are 43 years old, you get 4 large candles and 3 small ones.

That's rather economic don't you think?

In fact, I quite like that idea. I often get the impression that people would rather not have 40 or 50 little candles on a birthday cake because it reminds them of how old they are. Although the large candles would have a similar effect, I really do like the idea!

Does anybody have a recording of the Japanese 'happy birthday' song? If so, please post it - I would really like to hear it.
