Bipolar, OCD, PTSD...and other mental illnesses.

I was wondering if there was anyone here who has a loved one who suffers from some sort of mental illness and how it has effected you. Or if you know anyone who suffers. I knew two people who were bipolar and it was rather sad to know that they were suffering. Everday is battle for people who are bipolar. There are days when they face suicidal thoughts and then they have days when they feel like they're on top of the world.

Yes, two girls. One lived down the hall from me. There were times when seemed happy and nice. And there were times when she wouldn't speak to me. In fact, she gave me dirty looks sometimes. She'd had mood swings, and she drunk alot. Later on I foundout she was bipolar. The other girl I knew announced that she was bipolar. Before, I thought she talked fast sometimes. ☝

My best friend's mother is bipoloar. She ended up getting a divorce because of it. Quite sad really. Personally I think a lot of bipolars just dont' want to help themselves with the proper medication. Actually the funny thing is that bipolar isn't perminant. It can be without proper help, but most people develop it when they have a chemical imbalance in their brain. This can happen at any time during a person's life too. Kind of spooky if you think about it.

Personally I think a lot of bipolars just dont' want to help themselves with the proper medication.

Yeah, medication and chemical intakes such as drinking alcohol have a huge influence on conditions of bipolar patients.
I saw some of them whose symptoms were controlled by medication while they were at the hospital I worked; a lot of them didn't take their meds on weekends when they went home and came back all messed up.
Support from family is very important even though it is hard for them to cope.

One of my friends is bipolar. She lives with her nan and kept ringing me to tell me her nan was trying to drug her by gettin her to take her meds. Other times she was really high and would go out an meet people she just met on the net. That really worried me, along with trying to kill herself about 13 times. Thats messed up man, and there was nothing I could do for her.

I have a brother who is bipolar. He use to beat the crap out of me for no reason, just because he was angry, and because I was there at the time. Not a good time for me, I really can't say that I love him anymore. He's taking medicine for it now, and he's calmed down quite alot. So I dunno, I have someone I cared about with a mental illness

That must've been difficult for you to deal with, Thor. It's strange how bipolar works. One day you have these feelings of self confidance, even feelings of grandur. But then there are days when you feel nothing more than deep despair. Or they could feel like that at the same time. ☝ Did your brother ever speak rapidly when he was around you? Did it ever seem like there were days when he was distracted or couldn't concentrate? What about days when he would seem incredibly listless?
