(Actually pretty OK, I was glad I saw it)

In The Mood For Love (200)
(Good and almost very good, but a little bit of a let down. This beautifull women
wanders out on her own, never worrying about being propositioned. She is
alone a lot, going to theaters, eating out. Their seems to be nobody else in
the streets besides the two characters.)

The Man with the Golden Arm (1955)
(This is why, I hate movies from the 1950's. Cheesy acting,
over-the-top plot, characters that seem completely unreal.
How does this stuff win awards. The drug dealer looked like
he was a important wall-street broker. He was incredible neat
and clean. This is the guy selling heroin ! The women in the
wheel-chair, they couldn't tell she is faking it. People in wheel-chairs,
have their legs very very skinny, with no muscles. NOTE: Frank Sinatra
performance is very good, but look whats around it)

Springtime in a Small Town (2002)
(Directed by Zhuangzhuang Tian)
(Good, but a small disappointment. If I had more time, I should have
watched again. I have a gut feeling I would have a stronger opionon on this.
Maybe their some Chinese social issues and mores, that make this a stronger
plot).

"House Of Bamboo (1955)", filmed in Tokyo and Japan. Seems to capture Tokyo in 1955.

the plot seems average, and maybe a little better. of course it was the 1950's. Try not to look too hard at the plot.

PLOT PROBLEMS
in 2 days the fake gangster, gets into a hard-core mafia team.

big americans stage heist, and rob banks. american were giants compared to japanese back then. they stood out like sore-thumbs. how could they not be caught. they could be spotted a mile-away.

the "fake-gangster" just runs around knowing no japanese, yet just goes anywhere and everywhere with no problem.

of course many japanese were treated as simpletons, and americans were smart, cunning, and never made a mistake

they couldn't use a real japanese women for the lead female role. they used a very american japanese-american women (it was Hollywood in 1950's)
