Hello,
I'm thinking of doing a research student's term or even a PhD in Japan. Can you inform me of the best universities to study in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)?

Hi Rorsch,

It depends on which part you are interested in... Most universities has that field of research.

Some universities are good in sensors, some are in face/gesture/pattern recognition and others... It also depends on whether you would like to focus in hardware or software.

You will have to look under the research of the labs, since this field is quite vast and quite specifically different from each other.

I think you should check whether there is a research assessment scheme in Japan, like the UK REA for example. That would easily tell you where the best scholars on a given topic are.

I'm into a lot of stuff really multimodal interaction, social networks, ubicomp and tangible interfaces. I wonder if I can find a hip rising college who wants people to research in one of those topics

Rorsch,

I think you should look under computer science or information engineering. There are a huge number of universities having those labs. You might want to consider using JASSO webpage to help you search your university of interest.

I suppose it is quite easy to find one Keep us updated. I am interested in multi-agent systems.

You can try finding those top universities such as Tokyo University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Waseda University, Tohoku University and so on. Good Luck!
