Best place

The very best? Man that's tough...here's some of my favorites.

The roof of Don Quixote in Roppongi. Decent view, no crowded streets, and a lovely place to be during sun up after all night clubbing with Mickey D's in tow.

The Lemon House building in Shibuya...I don't remember the actual name of the building, but this place had 6 or 7 nomihoudai in the span of 3 floors. Too many good times.

The sports complex at Kami-Igusa. This was where my basketball circle practiced and where I went swimming with my host mom.

Kokuran Ramen on Waseda-dori near Takadanobaba. Fantastic food, decent prices, easy access iced tea. #3 ramen in Tokyo apparently.
 
That tough to say man, depends what you want outa japan. From the soul to modern japan , kyoto - tokyo. For me i love anything modern, so tokyo is the best. The heart of japan !

If you are in Tokyo anyway, Yokohama is definately worth a visit!!! Great city! E.g. China Town, the Harbour, the modern part of the city (yamate)....

How will he know if he found the "best" places or not? One of the places he sees will the the best of the places he sees, but he'll have no way of knowing if he saw the best there is....or just the best he saw.

Anyway, who would want to see "the best"? It just means everything else is downhill from there.

Trying to say this without sounding like my usual smartassed self.....

Have you considered that there are as many "best" places in Japan as there are people? You'll have to define your meaning much more narrowly in order to get any useful answer. What's best for one person may be totally boring for somebody else, and vice-versa.
 
Of All The Places....

I saw in Japan, one stands out after 30 years! The city of Nagasaki. To see how it rose from the ashes. There was a lot of beauty there. For an American, it is a very emotional place to be and see!

the americans ruined it with one quick blast. the japanese built it again over many years after that...
 
Visiting Nagasaki in my USN uniform is one of the more unique experiences in my life....

Why do you think it is worth going to Yokohama? Just curious how you got the idea,

Why it is worth going to Yokohama? Hmmm..I thought if one is in Tokyo, and want to visit another city, Yokohama is very nearby, so one does not have to travel far..
Also, I confess: I am biased.. I was born in Yokohama and think it is a great city!!

Wow, actually I went to Yokohama many times but I never knew there are a lot of things to do in Yokohama except for shopping untill now, thanks for that. It is kind of difficult to compare Yokohama and Tokyo, if one is interested in electronics budgets, he should definitely go to Tokyo, which has a destrictioin devoted to electronics, but if one doesn't really like crowd and want to feel what Japan's city is like, then one should go to Yokohama, I guess.
It always depends on one's interest.

My favorite place so far is Kyoto to which I went a few month ago, I really loved seeing many temples. I noticed there were a lot of tourists from outside Japan in Kyoto or a large number of people from outside but have been living there for a long time.

I am glad you are pleased with Yokohama! I come from Yamate in Yokohama, and I just love Yokohama very much, since there are soooo many sights, especially museums!!! Which I adore! I love coming back to my birthplace!!!
Kyoto is also a "must" for a foreigner...I love Kyoto as well, and love spending a weekend there.
 
When I'm free, I think I'll go there again to look around in different way from the previous one.
It takes about only 30minutes to get there from my place, just too busy now though.

People shouted at me, threw stones, little old ladies spat on me, teenagers attacked me with baseball bats, and old men too decrepit to walk set their dogs upon me.

Actually, nothing even remotely like that happened. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant.
 
Japanese Are Polite Showing Anger!


I was in civies, but with a coat that had a large US flag.Even in the museum, I just got a few bad stares, nothing was said.The tall stone column under the spot where the bomb went off is impressive. The museum had some life like exibits. Made me think what it must have been like that fateful day.
