Backpack Rule

My fiance thinks its a good idea to buy a backpack to wear in Japan to keep our cameras, and to carry things we buy. I was just curious on rules on backpacks in Japan. I know in the US there are places you cant bring a backpack to.

Are baseball parks off limits to backpacks, stores, etc?

Also would it be a good idea to get a lock for my backpack?

I slung a backpack around during my trip without any problems.
I would definitely use one.

I don't think you will need a lock for it either. Maybe just be a little more aware in very crowded areas and/or don't sling the backpack over both shoulders, just let it hang over one shoulder so it would be more difficult if someone did want to steal something.

Just be aware of the people around you and it shouldn't be too much of the problem. Especially on the trains, take the packs off and either hold them in front of you, set them at your feet, or use the overhead luggage racks. I had a friend neglect to take his giant backpack off once and he took out a few people on his way off the train without even noticing it.

Since nobody mentioned this, the folks at the ballpark will probably ask to search your bag, but no problem bringing it with you. On a side note, if you want to bring in outside beverages, you are allowed, but you have to pour it ALL into paper cups and discard whatever container you brought.

Huh?? Plenty of people use backpack here in the U.S. without issues. Entering certain places (i.e. ballgame) your bag may be searched but they still allow you to bring them in. And certain museums may ask that you don't wear your backpack with both straps on you shoulders so not to crowd aisles and such.
