Hello. (oh my god, these are too cute XD)

I'm part of a one-person scanlation group, and my grasp on the Japanese language is haphazard at best. I'm self-taught, and basically learn through a few books, one or two online references, and by attempting manga and doujinshi translations.

Anyway, I think I've done okay so far, but a few things have been throwing me off, and I'd just like to double-check and make sure I haven't butchered the language too badly. I appreciate whatever you can do to help me. ^^;

First:
忘れてたそういえばさ
こいつ何でか旭って名前なんだよなー

I know そういえば means "Now that you mention it" or "That reminds me". 忘れてた means "forgot", right? "(I) forgot, (but) that reminds me"?

The second line throws me off because I'm not quite sure of 何でか and なんだよな, and I've never quite got the hang of the function of -って.

I'm pretty sure 旭 is the name of a currently unnamed character.

To doublecheck:

...『それ』 ではなくて先生
赤ん坊です

I have translated as:

Denying his humanity with that type of speech doesn't seem to an appropriate sentiment to be teaching. He's not a "that", sensei. He's a baby.

昼夜を問わずあさひと乳繰りあっているが子はできないのよ

I have translated (roughly) as:

(I'm certain) Asahi and I have a relationship much like a married couple, regardless of the fact that we're (our personalities are) basically day and night, but having a child isn't possible.

『はなしま』
もう何でもいい
その子どこかにあずけてきてくれ
(授業にならん)

I have translated as:

Hanashima
I don't care where, but please put the child somewhere else.
(If it's in class)

来るなって言ったらあさひ本当に
来なくなって
...びっくりした

I have translated as:

When I said don't come back, you (asahi) really didn't come back.
...(I was) surprised.

I know it's a LOT to ask for at once, but I'd be terribly grateful if anyone could help me check/translate any part of that mess.

not very familiar to me either.
なんだよな
な の です よ な。
First な is from だ - it's only there because 名前のだ... would be 'belonging to name' and because in 名前だのだ (and such like) だ's turn to な.
のです / んです is covered in a recent thread in this very forum.
よ - 'emphasis particle / giving information new to hearer'
な - another emphasis particle. Don't ask me the nuance - I forget.

and I've never quite got the hang of the function of -って.

Here it's a straight forward equivalent to という. There are lots and lots of って pages out there in Google land - try a search for って, というのは, japanese and grammar.

What is a "that", sensei ? I don't think I understand the word order, here. Why isn't it ...『それ』 先生ではなくて赤ん坊です ？

Because that would be
"That" isn't a sensei it's a baby.

...『それ』ではなくて先生赤ん坊です just looks more like "It isn't that, (as an explanation) instead the sensei is a baby. Although maybe the original poster as more of an idea what a 'that' sensei would be.

Not in the context given. It's not a 'that' sensei.

It's clearer with a couple of commas added.

「何でか」is equivalent to 「なぜか(somehow)」, i guess.
still, i don't really get the meaning of this sentence, though....

忘れていたけれど
なぜかこの人は旭という名前なんですよね。
it's easier to see what it means if you transform spoken language
into written language...

Goodness, I didn't expect this much help. Thank you so much, everyone! You all did such a great job even though I didn't really explain the context for a few of those phrases. PaulTB had it right about the commas, I was lazy and just didn't type them in when I was transcribing from the manga. ^^;

Again, thank you so much everyone for teaching me a few new things and for making my job that much easier. ^^ And for those who are interested, the manga I was/am working with is titled "好きじゃないけど愛してる", a shounen-ai manga by Mashiro Minamino.
