Any good story books?

Hey everybody,
I am currently trying to get familiar with Japanese (mostly Kanji and grammar), but learning a long list of Kanji without any context is kind of boring...

Does any of you know of short stories books? (mainly for kids or so) If so could you give me any reference?

I once got my hands on a translation of the ugly little duckling (I think it was みにくいアヒルの子)from Andersen which is pretty much what I am looking for but all I can find is information on the drama...
