Aikido-ka needs help!

Hello one and all,
I am training in Aikido, and I need some assistance in a matter.
I would Like to get my name embroidered on my Gi and (when i become a Shodan) on my hakama. I have my first name in katakana, but I need my last name. If anyone can help, could someone please translate my last name into japanese and katakana? My last name is Copes. as in "he copes with every day life". if anyone could be of assistance, I would be forever greatful. I've tried various sites, but none of them help. Sense I will be going to seminars and training in japan, I feel this would help.

eer.. I'm not that advanced with my Japanese, but I'm guessing "Kopusu".
My names Chris and it's done as "Kurisu"...

I suggest you should maybe talk to a Japanese travel agency or a Japanese teacher... other then that I'm not sure who can help ya.

I agree with Hero.. both on the Kopusu part (or コプス as it is in katakana) and the part about making sure with a Jp teacher or something like that... although you can't really go wrong with katakana.. basically there are no set rules for how you spell your western name in katakana so you get to use whatever you think sounds right ..

Or コープス, perhaps. Or, just to confuse the buggers, ケウプス (whether that made sense would depend on your accent).

Thank you all for your help and input. The closest college that has a japanese teacher is in Dayton Ohio, and I HATE driving in dayton. Thank you all!

I know this sounds like im being greedy, but I now have a slight proble. My first name (Troy pronounced to ro oy) looks like it is hand brushed, and my last name that you guys helped me with is nice and square. The person spelled my name to ro i . My japanese word program doesn't have to ro i as a combo, could you please type it out in katakana for me? the I promise to get our of your hair thanks.

トロイ <-- to ro i in katakana

you mean you got it in hiragana (とろい)? cuz that looks less square than katakana ^^ or you mean he just wrote it on a slate of paper so it's his handwriting that is a bit rounded?

maybe you'd want トローイ as that elongates the o in ro :? personally i'd go without it tho...
